Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and UK Prime Minister David Cameron discussed a number of issues, including the possibility of sending peacekeepers to the south-east of Ukraine, at a meeting in Riga on May 22, the Ukrainian leader's press service has reported.

“The parties discussed the possibility of deploying a peacekeeping mission in Donbas,” it said.

Poroshenko also informed Cameron about the progress made in implementing the peace accords for Ukraine, reached at talks in the Belarusian capital Minsk in February, as well as the recent detention of two Russian soldiers in Ukraine.

The two leaders also sought to coordinate their joint efforts ahead of a G7 summit.

“David Cameron assured Petro Poroshenko that Ukraine can count on support from the UK in the future,” the press service said.
