You're reading: Poroshenko announces extra military measures in Donbas

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that the situation in Donbas remains difficult, and measures are being taken to boost defense.

“Regrettably, the situation in Donbas remains extremely tense. Our soldiers are resisting attacks along the entire frontline. We are taking additional strategic and tactical, military and political measures to reinforce our defense,” Poroshenko said at a wreath-laying ceremony at a commemorative cross in Kyiv on Jan. 29.

“The ambitions and appetites of the aggressor exceed the sizes of Ukraine. I spoke about it in Oswiecim on Tuesday where European leaders were marking the 70th anniversary since the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp. Yesterday, Russia’s State Duma questioned, with absolutely no reason, the international legality of the unification of Germany,” Poroshenko said.
