Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has asked Russia to assist in returning former chief of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's main office in Odesa region Dmytro Fuchedzhi to Ukraine to bring him to justice due to the riots in Odesa on May 2.

“In this regard, three persons were brought to justice, and one of the organizers – Fuchedzhi – is on the run. According to our special agencies, he is in Transdniestria, regularly visiting Russia. We would ask for your assistance: give him to us. We need this very much to ensure the investigation into the May 2 tragedy,” he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday, while answering a question from a Russian female journalist regarding the probe into the events in Odesa on May 2.

Poroshenko said that as the head of state he had assisted in involving a Council of Europe investigative commission in ensuring a transparent impartial investigation into the events on the Maidan in Kyiv and the events in Odesa.

“We are effectively cooperating with Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. [Thorbjorn] Jagland, and his representative in this commission, and I’m sure that as soon as a prime suspect, who gave weapons, ensured an attack and provocative fire on residents of Odesa, is given to us, this investigation will be free and impartial. So please use your influence and return the suspect to Ukraine,” the president said, addressing the Russian media.
