Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko met with U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden in Washington on Thursday evening, Sept. 18, the press service of the head of state has reported.

“The sides discussed the possible allocation by the United States of additional financial assistance to Ukraine, as well as the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the defense and energy sectors ahead of the winter season,” reads the report.

Poroshenko thanked Biden for his constant attention to Ukraine and considerable efforts made by the U.S. administration to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in Donbas.

“The sides noted the importance of supporting the further active political dialogue to respond quickly to events and prevent a new escalation of the situation,” the press service reported.
