Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has called for changes to the legislation on elections with regard for the situation in Donbas.

“The elections in Donbas have their special characteristics, which have to be taken into account in the law on elections,” the president said in an interview with Ukrainian television channels aired on Ukraina television on Oct. 4 evening.

Poroshenko said he is talking about internally displaced persons who should be given opportunities to vote, political parties, the work of the mass media, and the functioning of elections commissions.

“There are political forces that are interested in destabilization, interested in continuing the internal conflict. I reiterate that it’s the plan of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin. The plan of Putin, who was defeated in an open military conflict because we have managed to create powerful Armed Forces and a powerful international coalition,” Poroshenko said.
