Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko expects the European Union to make a decision on granting visa-free access to the EU to Ukrainian citizens at an Eastern Partnership summit in Riga in May, so that it could be put into practice by the end of 2015.

“I would like to discuss the Eastern Partnership’s Riga summit to be held on May 21-22 with the European commissioner. It is extremely important to us, and our main expectation from the summit is a positive political decision of the EU, opening opportunities to us for the practical and technical introduction of visa-free regulations for Ukrainian citizens as early as by the end of this year,” Poroshenko told journalists before negotiations with EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn in Kyiv on Feb. 19.
