Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Polish special presidential envoy and State Secretary Krzysztof Szczerski discussed the situation in Donbas in the context of a ceasefire that has been announced there at a meeting on Friday.

‘The Ukrainian president said the ceasefire has continued for six days, which gives cautious hope for peaceful development of the process,’ the Ukrainian presidential press service reported in commenting on his meeting with Szczerski in Kyiv on Friday.

Poroshenko and Szczerski shared the view that the international community should combine its efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine and preserve security in Europe, the presidential press service said.

‘Mr. Duda assured that security and peace in the region are among the most important foreign political objectives. In this context, the development of the situation in Ukraine is critically important,’ Szczerski said.

Poroshenko and Szczerski also addressed the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics’ (DPR and LPR) intention to hold local elections in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which, in Kyiv’s view, would undermine the Minsk process, the presidential press service said.
