Ukrainian President-Elect Petro Poroshenko has said that he is ready to sign the economic part of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union as soon as he is officially sworn in as president of Ukraine.

“Millions of Ukrainian people were on the streets fighting for the signing of the Association Agreement and that’s why I’m ready to finalize the signing of the Association Agreement and introduce a Free Trade Area with EU immediately after the inauguration,” Poroshenko said during a meeting with President of Austria Heinz Fischer in Warsaw on Wednesday.

As Poroshenko’s press service reported, during the meeting the parties also discussed a plan for peace and stabilization in the east of Ukraine and the first steps to restore law and order.

“I ran for [president] with slogans of peace, and that’s why I consider it necessary to establish peace in Ukraine,” the newly-elected president said.

Moreover, Poroshenko also discussed with Fischer steps for fighting corruption in Ukraine, reforming the country and establishing a favorable business climate, including for Austrian investors.

“Poroshenko thanked Austria for its support of the Ukrainian people, in particular during the protests on the Maidan and during further Russian aggression,” the press service added.

Poroshenko is on a visit to Poland on June 5.

The ceremony of inauguration of President-Elect Petro Poroshenko will be held on June 7.
