High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the Commission Federica Mogherini met with the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko as part of the President's visit to Brussels on Aug. 27 2015.

“Mogherini underlined the European Union’s continued support for the full implementation of the Minsk agreements, starting with respect for the ceasefire and the withdrawal of heavy weapons,” reads a press release posted on EU website on Aug. 27.

The interlocutors also stressed that sanctions against Russia might be continued and even toughened, the presidential press service said.

Poroshenko said that “Russian militants continue conscious breach of the Minsk deals pretending as if they are withdrawing heavy weaponry meanwhile committing provocative shell attacks on the Ukrainian military.”

Besides, the head of state provided an update on the security situation in eastern Ukraine, where the recent escalation of fighting was of particular concern, as well as harassment of the OSCE’s Special Monitoring Mission by separatists.

He said that just a wide international support when resisting to Russia aggression in Donbas will promote soonest political settlement of the conflict.
