Ukraine is expected to appoint its new ambassador to the United States before the beginning of summer, a diplomatic source told Interfax.
“It is not a very rapid procedure and one should not expect this
appointment in the coming days. The entire procedure of negotiating a
candidate for the post of ambassador will take a month or a month and a
half and may take place in May,” he said.
The source confirmed that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s
nominee chosen for this job is Valeriy Chaly, who today holds the post
of deputy presidential chief-of-staff in charge of foreign policy
issues.
“The procedure to nominate Chaly has already begun,” he said.
On April 14, Poroshenko dismissed Oleksandr Motsyk as Ukraine’s
ambassador to the U.S., Antigua and Barbuda, as well as Trinidad and
Tobago.
Motsyk had been appointed as Kyiv’s ambassador to U.S. in 2010.
