You're reading: Poroshenko orders Defenders of Ukraine Day to be celebrated on Oct 14

Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko has ordered the Defenders of Ukraine Day to be organized for October 14 of this year, the presidential press service has reported.

“The cabinet of ministers is ordered that within two weeks an Organizing Committee to prepare the celebration of the Day of Ukraine’s Defender in 2015 should be formed. The government is to ensure that celebrations are held in Kyiv and other localities of Ukraine, particularly, the country’s leaders are to [attend] and local self-administration agencies are to participate along with servicemen, participants in the Revolution of Dignity, church and Ukrainian diaspora representatives, and diplomats,” the report said.

The order also states that memorial services are to be held for Ukrainian defenders who died in the line of duty.

In addition, law enforcers are to ensure the safety and orderly conduct of citizens during the celebration.
