Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has had a telephone conversation with European Council President Donald Tusk.

“Petro Poroshenko suggested that the European Union attach an EU military expert mission to the Joint Center for Control and Coordination,” the Ukrainian president’s press service said on Thursday.

Poroshenko and Tusk discussed the Donbas situation and the fulfillment of the February 12 Minsk deal.

“Debaltseve razed by the militants and the ongoing artillery bombardments, for instance, in the Donetsk airport area, Pervomaisk, Mariupol and Horlivka, prove there is no lasting ceasefire and the sides are not ready for strict observation of the Minsk accords,” the Ukrainian president stated.

Poroshenko told Tusk that the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) had decided to request the UN Security Council and the Council of the European Union to send a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine and thereby support the fulfillment of the agreements.

“The interlocutors discussed a possible response to the situation and a possibility of further restrictive measures to be imposed by the European Union on Russia,” the report said.

The European Council president confirmed that he had accepted the Ukrainian president’s invitation to visit Kyiv on Sunday, Feb. 22, and attend the March of Dignity during which the sides would continue the discussion of their next steps.

The Joint Center for Control and Coordination incorporates Ukrainian and Russian servicemen and OSCE representatives.
