You're reading: Poroshenko: Protection of Ukraine’s sovereignty should unite all politicians and society

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko at a meeting with representatives of groups and factions in the Verkhovna Rada thanked MPs for their support and criticized those MPs, who, according to him, did not support the state's efforts in matters related to the country's sovereignty, the presidential press service has reported.

“Ukrainian President Poroshenko held a meeting with representatives
of groups and factions in the Verkhovna Rada, during which he thanked
the MPs for supporting his decree on partial mobilization and a
parliament address to foreign countries to recognize the self-proclaimed
Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics as terrorist organizations,”
reads the report.

However, Poroshenko slammed those MPs, who, according to him, did not
support the state’s efforts in matters related to the protection of its
territorial integrity and sovereignty.

“On the one hand, I’m really grateful to you for your decisions. On
the other hand, I’m just shocked that they were passed on the verge of a
critically small number of votes. The entire country is at war, but 210
MPs think they don’t care about the war?” the press service quoted
Poroshenko as saying.

“The president again stressed the importance of consolidating not
only society, but also all branches of government in matters of the
country’s defense,” reads the statement.

“Today, there are things that should unite the country, and I am sure
that the protection of the sovereignty of our country should unite all
politicians, despite which political camp they belong to. The whole
society should be united,” Poroshenko said.

“Commenting on the appeal to the international community on the
recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics as terrorist
organizations, Poroshenko noted that after the tragedy that occurred in
the Ukrainian sky, it is a very important issue. He expressed hope that
the countries whose citizens were killed in a terrorist attack against
the Malaysia Airlines plane will support Ukraine in this issue,” the
press service said.
