President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko stated his requirement to increase the efficiency of the public prosecution combating corruption, investigation of notorious criminal cases and crimes against Maidan activists, the president's press service reported.

“The society has a lot of complaints regarding the activity of the Prosecutor General’s Office and local public prosecutor’s offices. People are also discontented with the slow pace of your structure’s reformation,” the president said during the meeting with representatives of the public prosecution on the occasion of the Day of Prosecutor.

According to him, the majority of complaints are related to the lengthy investigation of resonant criminal cases, impunity of former senior officials, failure to return all stolen public funds and the fact that corrupt prosecutors are still holding their posts.

The President particularly underlined the necessity of completing the investigation into tragic events on Maidam. He noted that amnesty or any agreements would be out of discussion in that matter.

“The public prosecution should strictly respond to malversation, abuse of power and corruption among civil servants. Legitimacy of public procurement and illegal deals with land resources need more attention as well,” he said.

Besides, the head of state urged to improve the information activities of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

“Feel free to wash dirty linen in public. Let’s clear our house from corrupt officials and criminals before the big repair. You should tell the public about the results of your work more actively,” he stressed.
