You're reading: Poroshenko says corruption in Ukraine lost its cover

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has promised that the fight against corruption will continue increasing in Ukraine, the presidential press service has reported.

“For those who are trying to practice corruption in military commissariats, for those who are trying to practice corruption in the law enforcement agencies and in prosecutor’s offices, and for those who are going to practice corruption in local self-governance bodies and in state-run enterprises, anywhere: burned land will be under those who practice corruption,” Poroshenko said during a meeting with members of Ternopil Regional Administration.

Poroshenko promised to prevent the use of old corruption schemes. “There has always been the authorities’ ‘umbrella,’ ‘cover’ over corrupt officials, which protected them and which helped them commit their crimes with impunity. Do we have corruption now? Yes. But it doesn’t have a ‘roof’ anymore. I have destroyed it and will continue destroying it,” Poroshenko said.
