NEW YORK - The armed conflict in Donetsk and Luhansk regions has killed 8,000 people, including 6,000 civilians, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko told the UN General Assembly in New York on Sept. 29.

“Over 8,000 Ukrainians, 6,000 of them civilians, have died at the hands of Russia-backed terrorists and invading troops,” Poroshenko said.

Over 1.5 million Donbas residents have had to leave their homes during the war, he said.
