Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has called for early local elections to be held in Donetsk and Luhansk after changes are made to the Constitution and the hostilities end there.

“It is envisaged that straight after the passage of the peace plan and constitutional changes, Donetsk and Luhansk must hold early local elections to enable their local communities to elect their representatives and thus give them powers making them responsible for peace, quiet and welfare in their territory,” Poroshenko said while opening a meeting of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council on June 16.
