President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in a conversation with Prime Minister of Finland Alexander Stubb has said that the flow of militants and weapons across the border from Russia into Ukraine continues, and expressed his hope that the international community will help Ukraine prevent this from happening.

“Petro Poroshenko said that despite the tragedy [with the Malaysian aircraft] and clear understanding that it had been caused by the actions of terrorists, the supply of weapons and militants across the border from Russia had not stopped. The Ukrainian president stressed that further efforts must be focused on preventing Russia from supporting terrorists. The head of state expressed his hopes for international support in this matter,” the president’s press service reported on July22.

Poroshenko thanked Stubb for Finland’s concern because the tragedy of the Malaysia Airlines aircraft is an issue of global security.

He also said that despite the obstruction by terrorists, Ukrainian experts finally managed to recover the dead bodies from the crash site. The bodies will be sent to the Netherlands for further identification and all the necessary procedures.

Poroshenko stressed the importance of the convocation of an extraordinary meeting of the heads of the EU states, as it is the European Council that can take further decisive steps against those who support terrorists.

The parties agreed to coordinate future actions at a bilateral level and on the international arena.
