Ukraine expects the international community to provide it with military-technological assistance rather than foreign military personnel, says Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

“We don’t expect that soldiers from other countries will be fighting in Ukraine to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and inviolability of our borders,” Poroshenko said at a news conference following a meeting with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in Brussels on Aug. 30.

At the same time, Ukraine expects “military-technological assistance from the international community,” Poroshenko said.

“Military-technological cooperation, cooperation in exchanging intelligence, and other aspects are certainly a subject of both bilateral consultations, which are taking place in Brussels today, and the president’s position at the NATO summit to take place in early September,” he said.

Ukraine also expects assistance in the form of non-lethal weapons and equipment, and the EU has expressed its willingness to provide such assistance, Poroshenko said.
