You're reading: Poroshenko says militants prevent Ukrainian, international humanitarian missions from entering Donbas

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko told in a telephone call with UN chief Ban Ki-moon said that Ukraine together with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) apply efforts for sending humanitarian cargos for Donbas citizens and for addressing urgent humanitarian concerns.

“However, the president stresses that due to the militants it is difficult for humanitarian convoys with Ukrainian and international to reach eastern regions,” the president’s press service said.

The head of state and UN Secretary General also agreed on further steps for a possible deployment of a peacekeeping mission in the Donbas region under the UN aegis, the statement posted on the president’s official website said.

Ki-moon noted actions of the Ukrainian authorities meant to settle a complicated humanitarian situation.

Besides, he thanked Ukrainian people for their aid to forced refugees.
