Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that the announcement of new dates of elections in the breakaway parts of Donbas region amounts to unacceptable blackmail.

“The president on the new dates of fake elections: blackmail is unacceptable for Ukraine,” the president’s press secretary Sviatoslav Tseholko wrote on Twitter on Oct. 13.

Poroshenko stressed that “this will only lead to tougher sanctions against Russia,” Tseholko said.

The following post appeared on Poroshenko’s Twitter account later: “Donbas was, is and will be Ukrainian, and we will retake the occupied areas! Not one piece of our land shall we give away!”
