President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said that if Russia does not adhere to the implementation of Minsk agreements then the sanctions against Moscow could be tougher.

“Economic sanctions against Russian Federation have already done a reckless scheme in Donbas and made annexation crucially non-profitable for Russia Federation. These sanctions might be worsened if Russia doesn’t adhere to the Minsk agreements,” Poroshenko said in Lviv when delivering a speech to cadets and professors of the Land Forces Academy named after Hetman Sahaidachny in Lviv, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported on Sept. 21.

According to Poroshenko, the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ukrainian diplomats have already secured “a fragile ceasefire” in the east of the country. However, he stressed that this is mainly thanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Poroshenko said that due to the special abilities of the board of the Academy of Land Forces in training Ukrainian army offices, he has decided to grant national status to the academy.

“I’ve decided to grant national status to the Academy of Land Forces in Lviv. I hope this step will give a powerful impetus to the development of leading military university of Ukraine,” Poroshenko said.

He said that 300 military servicemen who participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation are currently studying at the academy, going on to describe them as “a golden fund of the state and the Ukrainian army.”
