Ukraine will become energy independent within two years, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said.

“Earlier Ukraine consumed 70 billion cubic meters of gas per year; we have reduced this figure to 40 billion cubic meters. And this is just the beginning. I am quite sure that in two years we will ensure our energy independence from Russia. We will be able to build new ways for receiving Norwegian gas and gas from Europe, and Ukraine will also produce shale gas,” he said, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland).

The president added that Ukraine would build a transparent electricity and coal market.
