You're reading: Poroshenko signs amendments into law on impossibility to evade punishment for persons on temporarily occupied territories

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a law on amendments into some legislative acts of Ukraine "On inevitability of punishment of people that are on the temporarily occupied territory or in the military operation zone" and "On improvement of the procedures of confiscation."

As the president’s press service reported, the law No.119-VIII as of Jan. 15 introduced the amendments into the law, under which effect of “special criminal proceeding” institution in the Criminal Procedural Code concerns suspect (guilty), who now are stay on the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine or in the military operation area, or put on the wanted list.

The law applies possibility of a special pre-trial investigation and special proceedings against suspects (defendants) that are on the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine or in the vicinity of the ATO.

The changes will apply a special confiscation in criminal proceedings only on the basis of the provisions of the general part of the Criminal Code for all crimes.

Under the law, a special pre-trial investigation and a special court proceeding will be carried out exclusively for persons declared in interstate and/or international wanted list.
