Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko has submitted to Verkhovna Rada a bill "On changes to the Ukrainian laws, regarding the renouncement by Ukraine of its non-aligned policy" and marked this document as urgent for consideration at an extraordinary parliamentary session.

“Ukraine’s non-aligned status which was enshrined in the Ukrainian law on the principles of the domestic and foreign policies turned out to be inefficient in the context of providing national security against foreign pressure and aggression. Ukraine’s prolonged presence in the ‘grey’ buffer zone between the powerful collective-defense systems poses an additional challenge to Ukraine,” according to a memo enclosed to the bill, the president’s press office said.
