Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has tasked Pavlo Klimkin with increasing the number of female diplomats heading Ukrainian diplomatic missions and representing Ukraine in EU countries, according to presidential press service.

“The potential, education and occupational skills of Ukrainian women
are extremely high, and the authorities should take that into account in
the realization of personnel policy,” Poroshenko said during a meeting
with female lawmakers who are members of “Equal Possibilities” interfactional
union.

Head of state said that he supported the view of female MPs standing for introduction of gender quotas in election legislation.

“It’s important to analyze, legally regulate and ensure enhancement
of the role of women not only in society but in government as well,” he
said.

The president also said that he supported increasing the number of women in government.

“European integration imposes the necessity of a large presence of
women in all branches of power,” Poroshenko said. According to him, it’s
a negative fact that there is currently only one female minister in the
government and only 10 percent of the lawmakers in parliament are women.
