You're reading: Poroshenko tells Breedlove Kyiv interested in expanding program of joint military exercises

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko at a meeting with NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe U.S. General Philip Breedlove has said Kyiv is interest in the development of further cooperation in the defense sector, including the expansion of the program of joint exercises, the press service of the head of state.

“The president expressed Ukraine’s interest in developing further cooperation in the defense sector, including the expansion of the program of joint exercises in order to strengthen the Ukrainian army, bring its training level in line with the best modern standards,” the press service said in a statement posted on the president’s website.

“We have efficient military and technical cooperation. We also have good prospects for cooperation in holding military exercises,” Poroshenko said.

In addition, the Ukrainian president noted the efficiency of joint military exercises, particularly in the Yavoriv training ground in Lviv region.

In turn, Breedlove praised the current level of cooperation between the Ukrainian and U.S. military, in particular in holding joint drills.

He also noted the need to continue the reform of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, and reaffirmed his country’s support.
