Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will hold consultations with the leaders of parliamentary factions on Friday evening to discuss the possibility of dissolving the Verkhovna Rada, a parliament source told Interfax-Ukraine.

The meeting has been set for 1700, he said.

“The consultations with the head of state will be held at the presidential administration,” the source said.

Poroshenko said on his Twitter account on Aug. 22: “I am convinced that after the parliamentary elections a team will be formed that will be able to demonstrate the best qualities of Ukraine as a united state.”

On July 24 Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov, speaking before parliament, formally announced that the coalition of parliamentary parties, European Choice, had ceased to exist.

Failure to form a new coalition within 30 days of the dissolution of the previous one gives the president reason to dissolve the Verkhovna Rada and hold early parliamentary elections.

Under the Constitution, the decision on an early dissolution of Verkhovna Rada must be made by the president after consultations with the speaker, his deputies and party leaders in the Verkhovna Rada.
