Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko has said that he will soon hold consultations with the authorities of the EU member states which border on Ukraine to develop joint actions to combat smuggling.

“In the near future, I will hold relevant consultations with the leadership of our neighbors as contraband cannot come from this side without being awaited on the other side of the border. This is a confirmation of cross-border corruption,” Poroshenko said in Mukacheve on Wednesday at a meeting with the heads of law enforcement agencies of Zakarpattia region.

The president expressed his confidence that the leadership of Ukraine and the neighboring EU countries will be able to join forces and Ukraine will receive support in the fight against contraband flows.

“We must close the western border for smuggling,” Poroshenko said.
