Brussels - Ukraine needs, first and foremost, the protection of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, the strengthening of defense capabilities and democratic institutions, and the implementation of the necessary political and economic reforms, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said in his address to the delegates of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

“We need urgent and effective support from our partners in the alliance. Only together we will be able to overcome serious threats to European security posed by the illegal actions of Russia,” reads his address to the delegates to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which was read out in The Hague on Monday, Nov. 24 by Ukrainian presidential advisor Rostyslav Pavlenko.

Poroshenko noted that Ukraine and NATO must stop the aggressor together and force it to comply with agreements and, most importantly, to stop the bloodshed.

“Today Ukraine is at the forefront of the fight against terrorism in Europe,” Poroshenko said.

He said that Ukraine was also changing its foreign policy.

“Our country is decisively resuming its political course for integration into the Euro-Atlantic security system. The course reflects the desire of Ukrainian citizens,” Poroshenko said.

Pavlenko was appointed a presidential advisor under decree No. 560/2014 of July 3 this year.
