Ukraine could lay on support of Turkey in the issues of stabilizing the situation in the country, candidate for the post of Ukrainian president MP Petro Poroshenko has said.

“Turkey firmly said, coming from the prime minister, that it remains a
strong supporter of the sovereignty and independence of the state. We
can count on the support of Turkey both in international organizations
and in the bilateral position,” Poroshenko told reporters after a
meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on
April 15.

Poroshenko said that at the meeting the sides “discussed a plan on
the stabilization of the situation in Ukraine and what can be done to
provide peace and stability in our state.”

He said that Turkey as the country chairing the OSCE, will send
monitors to Ukraine, and a representative of Turkey heads the OSCE
mission to monitor the situation in Ukraine.

“Peace, calmness, the life and health of Ukrainians, stability in the
eastern part [of Ukraine] is a top priority, about which the world is
worried now,” Poroshenko said.

He also said that Ukraine and international society lays great hopes
on the meeting of four foreign ministers of Russia, Ukraine, the United
States and the EU on April 17 in Geneva.

“We lay great expectations that finally aggression against Ukraine
will end that foreign army divisions will be removed from the territory
of Ukraine and there will be a chance to stabilize the situation on the
whole territory. We’re able to do this today. The Ukrainian nation
showed this ability and I’m sure that in the near term we’ll manage to
reach our goals with the help of international solidarity,” he said.
