Ukrainian presidential candidate and independent MP Petro Poroshenko believes that protesters who are occupying administrative buildings in southeastern Ukraine should be offered a deadline to give up weapons.

“Those who refuse to surrender their weapons and take advantage of
the proposed amnesty should be brought to justice,” Poroshenko said in
televised remarks on Thursday evening.

The Kyiv authorities ought to listen to the population of the Donetsk
region who have their own vision of relations with the country’s
central government, he said.

“No assistance either from the West or the East is needed in a dialogue with our own people,” he added.
