You're reading: Poroshenko: Ukraine is increasing defense expenditure to preserve independence

Chernihiv - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that Ukraine has considerably increased defense expenditure in 2015.

“We increased defense expenses by a few times. This year’s Ukrainian budget has already foreseen over UAH 90 billion to preserve the independence of our state,” Poroshenko said while speaking at the Chernihiv Regional State Administration on March 31.

Poroshenko also spoke about Ukrainian volunteer movements that help the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

According to Poroshenko, 80 percent of Ukrainians are involved volunteerism in some way. In addition, he said that as an experiment volunteers have been appointed to “the most dangerous in terms of corruption” departments of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine.
