Ukraine can buy weapons from other countries under long-term contracts on state guarantees, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.

“Today we should give serious attention to the provision to the Armed Forces, other military units, and law enforcement agencies of modern equipment and weapons,” the president said at a recent session of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).

Priority is to be given to domestic manufacturers, Poroshenko said.

“We can buy what we lack abroad, and domestic diplomacy has worked very well for these opportunities. I can say that this will be the first time that we have used long-term credits from the supplying countries for the appropriate state guarantees,” Poroshenko said.

Poroshenko said he has discussed this issue with his foreign partners. “We have found support and understanding from our foreign partners,” the president said.
