Berezhany, Ternopil region - Ukraine will launch talks on membership with the European Union immediately after the presidential elections, independent parliamentary deputy and presidential candidate Petro Poroshenko said.

“We will start talks on the right to become a member of the European Union shortly after the presidential elections,” he told residents of the town of Berezhany in Ternopil region on Sunday.

He also said that further developments will depend on Ukraine. “What will happen next will depend on us, on the pace of reform and change. My position is resolute: Ukraine will join the European Union. This is my pledge,” Poroshenko said.

Ukraine’s presidential elections are due to take place on May 25.
