Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that Ukraine's aim is not to win the war, but to maintain peace, for which the country needs more international political support and more weapons.

“I hope the world will recognize their [the Ukrainian servicemen’s] struggle. They need more political support from the whole world and they need more weapons, both lethal and non-lethal,” he said in a speech before the U.S. Congress on Thursday, Sep. 18.

Poroshenko specified that Ukraine’s purpose is not to win a war, but maintain peace, and “in order to maintain peace we need to be strong.”

“We have no doubt that we will be strong thanks to you,” Poroshenko told the U.S. Congress.
