Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has urged the European Union to support his country's initiative to launch an EU operation pursuant to the joint security and defense policy in order to implement the Minsk accords.

“During our meeting I raised the issue of deploying an EU operation pursuant to the joint security and defense policy in order to create proper security conditions for implementing the Minsk accords We are urging the European Union to help implement this initiative,” Poroshenko said in Kyiv on April 27 at a joint press conference with European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

“Ukraine was, is and will remain a consistent advocate of the Minsk agreements and of the unconditional observance of all of its provisions. We aspire for peace, not war,” the Ukrainian president said.
