Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has visited the site of a tactical naval exercise during his working trip to Mykolaiv Oblast.

“The president, accompanied by the Navy commander, Vice Admiral Serhiy Haiduk, has sailed out into the sea on a high-speed boat to watch the landing of an amphibious assault force through a combined method on an unequipped shore,” the president’s press office said of his trip to the Oblast.

The drills were held in the waters of Bug Estuary and involved marine and special-forces units, the Ukrainian Navy ships and motor boats, as well as Navy aircrafts, Air Force and Ground Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

“The personnel honed their practical skills in a dynamic environment brought as close as possible to a real-life one throughout all the stages of the amphibious landing on an unequipped shore, beachhead assault and retention. The forces also practiced inter-service interaction from the sea and from the air,” the statement reads.

The aim of this exercise is to prepare naval units for possible developments on the sea coast, in particular, in the Mariupol area.
