Energy workers of public joint-stock company DTEK Donetskoblenergo have restored power supply to 85 percent of residents of Horlivka working in breaks between firing and in the moments of calm, the press service of the energy holding reported on Aug. 21.

The press service said that residential districts Novohorlivka, Soniachny, Vorobyivka, Zhovtnevy, Kondratyivka, settlements Mashzavod and Myrny were connected to power. The only settlement without power is Russky Krai. The settlement is located outside the town closer to Vuhlehirsk where actively armed hostilities are seen and there is no possibility of repairing power lines.

DTEK said that Horlivka was disconnected from power on Aug. 8 due to damage of high-voltage line. 80 percent of residents and enterprises were left without power in the town – filtration stations, a dairy plant, Rumiantsev and Hayevoi mines, Kirov Engineering Plant, Horlivka Coke Plant, a town hospital, a blood transfusion station and a town tram and trolleybus department.

On Aug. 11, buildings of cardiology and a hydropathic establishment and a first filtration station were connected to power. On Aug. 14, power was given to 2,500 residents of Horlivka, two kindergartens and two schools of Zhylmassiv district and 254th Kvartal district. The Horlivka filtration station was connected to power too. On Aug. 17, power was given to hospital two, Horlivka Coke Plant and Hayevoi Mine. However, on Aug. 18, the last line that was giving power to the town was damaged.

“Only today the energy teams of DTEK Donetskoblenergo managed to restore power supply to the major part of Horlivka. However, there are many things to repair, as many internal networks are destroyed,” reads the report.

DTEK was established in 2005 to manage the energy assets of System Capital Management (SCM, Donetsk), belonging to Rinat Akhmetov. The corporation performs the strategic management of the group’s enterprises, composing a vertically integrated chain for coal mining and enrichment, electricity generation and sales.
