You're reading: Pre-term elections in some regions to be held on same day as parliamentary elections

Pre-term elections of the heads of a number of local governments in Ukraine will be held on October 28, 2012.

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, approved this decision at a sitting on Thursday, May 17.

According to an Interfax-Ukraine reporter, earlier, the parliamentary committee on state building and local governments proposed to hold local elections on July 15. As the issue was not considered in time, the committee decided at a meeting on Wednesday to recommend that the local elections be held on Sunday, October 28, 2012, on the same day as the parliamentary elections.

Thus, pre-term elections of 17 village heads and one mayor (of their own volition or due to the death of mayors, or under a ruling of a court) will be held on October 28.
