President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has proposed that parliament appoint Valeriya Gontareva as Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

A respect draft resolution, No. 4114a, was registered in parliament on Wednesday.

Gontareva has been working as Chairwoman of the Board at the Investment Capital Ukraine (ICU) since December 2007.

Prior to joining ICU, she had 18 years of experience working for
leading local and international financial institutions in Ukraine. She
held the post of First Deputy Chairman of the Board and Head of
Financial Markets at ING Bank Ukraine from January 2001 to December
2007. Prior to that she served as a member of the Board of Societe
General Ukraine, where she was responsible for capital market
operations. From 1993 to 1996, Gontareva was Chief Economist at the
Ukrainian Interbank Currency Exchange.

Gontareva holds two academic degrees: from Kyiv Polytechnic Institute
National Technical University of Ukraine (graduated in 1987) and a
master’s degree in economics from Kyiv National Economic University
(obtained in 1997).

As reported, Poroshenko has proposed dismissing Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Stepan Kubiv.
