You're reading: Presidential candidate Boyko calls for return to dialogue with Russia

Instead of using military rhetoric in talking to Russia, Ukraine must start a dialogue aimed at settling the relationship between the two countries, Ukrainian presidential candidate Yuriy Boyko said.

“We need to stop fighting with Russia and abandon our military
rhetoric, leave the Russian factor to international organizations and
our western partners, the guarantors of our territorial integrity, and
start as quickly as possible resolving our internal conflict and
demonstrating our unity and integrity. This is the best defense against
the external influence of a third party,” Boiko told reporters.

Today, economic ties are the main thing in our relations with Russia, he said.

“The dialogue is necessary to settle and normalize our relations. To
make sure there is no impediments to production, especially in eastern
Ukraine. We have a very large number of Russia-oriented suppliers.
Approximately 300,000 Ukrainians are working at factories, which have
direct production links with Russian enterprises,” the presidential
candidate said.

If Ukraine loses these ties, people will lose their jobs, which will
further complicate the economic situation in the country’s east, the
politician added.
