Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not discuss Ukraine's possible accession to the Belarusian-Kazakh-Russian Customs Union at a meeting in Sochi on Friday, the Ukrainian presidential press service reported on Saturday.

“Ukraine’s possible accession to the Customs Union was not discussed during the meeting. No documents were planned to be signed during the meeting, and none were signed,” it said.

The presidents addressed a broad range of issues pertaining to Ukrainian-Russian bilateral cooperation, particularly in the industry, hi-tech, and financial fields, it said.

“Special significance was attached to Ukrainian-Russian cooperation in the energy sector. These issues were also considered, in particular, in the context of preparations for a Ukrainian-Russian interstate commission session,” it said.

Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov had told Interfax earlier that, while meeting in Sochi on December 6, Putin and Yanukovych had discussed the agenda of a bilateral interstate commission session scheduled for December 17 in Moscow and had not discussed Ukraine’s possible accession to the Customs Union.
