You're reading: Presidents of Ukraine, Latvia to meet in Kyiv on March 14

Latvian President Andris Berzins will make an official visit to Ukraine on March 14-15 at the invitation of his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovych.

The press service of the Ukrainian president said, referring to Head of Ukraine’s Presidential Administration Serhiy Liovochkin, that on March 14 the presidents will hold talks and participate in the Ukrainian-Latvian Business Forum.

The agenda of the presidential negotiations includes the discussion of intensification of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, the spheres of transport and energy, the expansion of business contacts, as well as the development of cultural and social ties between Ukraine and Latvia.

In addition, the sides are planning to raise the issue of Ukraine’s European integration, in particular the preparations for the signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union, and further the liberalization of visa travel for Ukrainians.

Liovochkin added that the sides are planning to sign a range of bilateral documents, including a joint statement of the Ukrainian and Latvian presidents and an agreement on the principles of cooperation in the sphere of consumer protection.

Berzins will also visit Odesa region to participate in the Ukrainian-Latvian Business Forum in Odesa and to examine work of Odesa and Illichivsk maritime merchant ports.
