Kyiv will insist at future trilateral talks on gas on September 6 on a compromise option of the price of Russian gas for Ukraine, which was proposed by the European Commission (EC), Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Prodan has said.

“During our last negotiations with the European Commission, we had a joint compromise position. It was linked to the price, which is formed during the summer period at a level of about $320 per 1,000 cubic meters, while in the peak period – at $385 per 1,000 cubic meters. And then an average price is formed, no matter how much gas we take,” he told reporters on Wednesday.

“We will most likely discuss the position, which has already been discussed,” Prodan said.

He also said that at future negotiations Ukraine plans to raise the subject of the revision of the rate of Russian gas transit from Ukraine.

He also added that Naftogaz’s lawsuit against Gazprom remained at the Stockholm court, but Ukraine and European partners believe that to resolve this dispute it is necessary to find a compromise decision on the price of Russian gas supplies to Ukraine, which will be in effect until the end of the trial.

As reported, President Petro Poroshenko said earlier that the next round of energy consultations between Ukraine, the European Union and Russia would be held on September 6, 2014.

“Agreement was reached that the next round of consultations on energy issues with the participation of European Commissioner [for Energy Gunther] Oettinger, Russian and Ukrainian ministers of fuel and energy will be take place on September 6,” Poroshenko said at the end of his visit to Minsk.
