You're reading: Prosecutors: Ukrainian trafficker in human organs sell donors in Ecuador and Costa Rica

The prosecutor's office of Ternopil region has sent to court criminal proceedings against a local resident who organized the supply of human organ donors from Ukrainians to Ecuador, Costa Rica and Sri Lanka.

The criminal was finding and recruiting healthy young people, who had serious financial problems, organized their travel abroad, provided passports and documents, and passed them to his accomplices to carry out operations for the removal of a kidney, the press service of the Prosecutor’s Office of Ternopil region on Thursday.

Surgeries were performed in medical centers in Ecuador, Costa Rica and Sri Lanka, for which donors received around $ 10,000 in cash.

The criminal managed to smuggle abroad six donors, for each of whom he received $ 2,000.

The organ trafficker is currently in custody. He is charge with human trafficking and faces imprisonment for a term from five to twelve years with confiscation of property.
