The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office has confirmed that a bank account of former Head of the State Employment Service Volodymyr Halytsky in Monaco has been frozen.

"The materials of a criminal case contain this event that you are talking about [the freezing of Halytsky’s bank account]," Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka said at a briefing in Kyiv on March 22.

He added that the criminal investigation was underway and that the circumstances of the criminal case were currently being established.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine said earlier that a former senior official who is now under investigation had a bank account of about EUR 1 million in a country in Western Europe, on which he accumulated the funds illegally obtained in Ukraine, and that this account had already been frozen by the competent authorities of that country.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said that the necessary international legal measures would be taken to return these funds to Ukraine. The former senior official was not named.
