You're reading: Pshonka, Georgian justice minister exchange experience in legal system reform

Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka has briefed the members of a Georgian delegation led by Justice Minister Zurab Adeishvili about the state of criminal justice reform in Ukraine, the media liaisons department of the Prosecutor General's Office reported on Thursday, March 29.

According to the office, Pshonka focused on the basic provisions and innovations of the new draft Criminal Procedure Code. The sides also discussed the process of reforming the prosecutor’s office and the bar in Ukraine.

Adeishvili, in turn, shared the experience of the positive achievements in reforming the legal system in Georgia.

"According to him, the achievement of effective results in the fight against corruption was favored by the deregulation of the economy and the introduction of document-free services in government agencies, etc," reads the statement.

The meeting was also attended by Georgian Deputy Justice Minister Giorgi Vashadze, Georgian Deputy Prosecutor General David Sakvarelidze, Georgian Ambassador to Ukraine Grigol Katamadze and Georgian Parliament First Vice-Speaker Mikheil Machavariani.

"The sides noted the constructive nature of Ukrainian-Georgian relations in the legal sphere and expressed confidence in further fruitful cooperation. The meeting was held in an atmosphere of respect and understanding," reads the statement.
