Russian President Vladimir Putin has forwarded a message to his French counterpart Francois Hollande, offering his condolences over the death of Total CEO Christophe de Margerie and the crew of a Falcon plane, which crashed at Moscow's Vnukovo airport late on Oct. 21, the Kremlin press service has reported.

“I was shocked to hear the news of this air crash at Moscow’s Vnukovo airport, which resulted in the death of Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of the oil company Total Christophe de Margerie and the crew of airplane,” Putin said in his message.

“I would like to ask you to convey my sincere condolences and words of sympathy to the family and friends of de Margerie, an outstanding French entrepreneur who pioneered a large number of major joint projects, which laid the foundation for long-term productive cooperation between Russia and France in the energy sphere,” the Russian president said.

“We lost a true friend of our country and we will always keep him in good memory,” Putin said.
