Sochi – Russian President Vladimir Putin believes Ukrainian President Elect Petro Poroshenko still has a chance to start a dialogue with people in southeastern Ukrainian regions.

“I think Mr. Poroshenko, who has no blood on his hands so far, has a unique chance to halt this punitive operation now and start a dialogue with people in southeastern Ukraine,” Putin said in an interview with Radio Europe 1 and TF1 TV channel.

He said the events evolving in Ukraine should not be called a war. “There is a punitive operation launched by Kiev’s government against the country’s own citizens. It is not a war between states, it is something entirely different,” Putin indicated.
